Brief Bio[]

I'm a thirty-something net geek and Mozilla staffer from Canada who wants to help people get the most out of the net. You can get more information on my various affiliations at http://www.linkedin.com/in/zakgreant

Skills[]

  • Conferences: I've presented at or organized over hundred events in the last decade.
  • Free Software/Open Source: I've been an active participant in Free Software and Open Source projects for over a decade, participating at various times as a developer, writer, marketer, team leader, bug hunter, QA lead, ombuds, licensing whipping monkey expert, etc.
  • Online: I've been making a living on the net for over a decade and have participated in some of the projects that have helped shape the web and the net (like the MySQL, Mozilla and PHP.)
  • Writing (and Editing): I've written several programming books and have edited a few dozen others.

What I Hope To Learn at FOSSCoach[]

I want to learn if the idea of FOSSCoach can work well. :)

What I Hope To Share at FOSSCoach[]

My work at the Mozilla Foundation focuses on advancing the Mozilla Manifesto. The FOSSCoach events are a way for the Mozilla Foundation to directly help people get the most out of the net.

I'm coordinating FOSSCoach and will be coaching and presenting as well. I'll likely cover the topics of Free Software/Open Source licensing, along with community dynamics.
